About Industry Development Office

The Industry Development Office conceptualises and develops strategies and programmes to strengthen the competitiveness of the design sector in order to achieve Singapore’s vision in being an innovation-driven economy and a loveable city through design by 2025. 

Responsibilities

The Assistant Manager/ Manager for Industry Development Office will be responsible to work with the team leader in conceptualising, implementing and reviewing strategies and initiatives to (1) Empower Singapore designers to bridge cultures, deliver social impact, anticipate and respond to global challenges (2) Elevate the Singapore Design brand and help Singapore design firms to become sustainable businesses.

Your responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

  • Develop an in-depth understanding of the state of the design sector, across disciplines including visual communications, urban planning, interior design, fashion, furniture and multi-disciplinary design.
  • Develop strategies and programmes to strengthen the competitiveness and support the growth of the Singapore design sector, including internationalisation, digitalisation and capability development of designers. Existing programmes under the Industry Development Office include the Good Design Research and Business of Design initiatives.
  • Operationalise the programmes through extensive engagement with both internal and industry stakeholders.
  • Engage with key stakeholders, including cross-agency and cross-unit collaborations and work closely with them to identify appropriate interventions for industry development in its capability and capacity.
  • Consult and collaborate with other public sector agencies to offer whole-of-government support to the industry as needed.

Requirements

  • Minimum 3 years of experience in an industry development role, with degree qualifications in business administration, design/arts management or relevant fields
  • Knowledge of/having a background in the design or creative sector would be advantageous
  • Possess analytical and strategic thinking skills to analyse situations and problems logically in order to make sound judgements. Be flexible and able to move easily between a broad strategic perspective and drilling down to develop detailed understanding of key issues
  • Creative and open to new challenges
  • Have strong written and oral communication skills to synthesise thoughts and properly convey ideas
  • Possess strong project management skills and implementation capabilities
  • Be a high energy team-player who is hands-on, driven and self-initiated to implement programmes effectively
  • Have a good track record as an effective collaborator with stakeholders from both the public and private sectors, and a negotiator with a strong ability to influence outcomes
  • Prepared to work under tight deadlines and pressure
